Sunday at Bellerive Country Club, St Louis promised to be a coronation for Wyndham Clark. Five-shot lead. Playing partner Rory McIlroy chasing. Then golf happened.

Clark dropped three shots through 14. Rory picked up two. Tied for the lead heading to the par 3 sixteenth. Both hit quality tee shots but it was Clark who bared his teeth! He rolled in his birdie and Rory didn't respond. On 17, Rory made a 'dog's breakfast' of the par-5 – bogey six to another Clark birdie. Game over. Wyndham's third straight birdie on the last secured a three shot victory over second placed Patrick Cantlay with Rory finishing in third spot.
