Scheffler in Cruise Control in One-Horse Race

The top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings teed it up at the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis - the players from 40 to 70 in the rankings had one mission other than trying to get the W - that was to finish the week inside the top 50. Finishing 51st to 70th in those rankings would end their PGA Tour seasons.

World number one Scottie Scheffler strolled around TPC Southwind like he was playing a Sunday morning practice round, dropping a final round 66 to finish at 17-under-par. His eight-shot victory showed exactly why he is World number one and why he sits at number 1 in the FedEx cup standings but, if I'm honest, it was about as exciting as watching paint dry! Si Woo Kim did his best to keep pace with a final round 68 to claim solo second at nine-under, while Alex Noren and Sam Burns tied for third at eight-under.

Scheffler made the FedEx St. Jude Championship look like a walk in the park, hitting an impressive 76% of greens and never once looking threatened. Nearly seven months since his last win, the timing of this return to form is ominous for everyone else. He's peaking at exactly the right moment and heads into the BMW Championship sitting pretty in first position.

Jordan Spieth will be gutted. He moved up two spots but still finished two agonizing places outside the top 50.

The big mover this week was Sungjae Im, who climbed 13 places from 53rd to 40th.

TPC Southwind was in fantastic condition, but when one player is in cruise control and the rest are struggling to get out of third gear, even big tournaments can feel like a procession.

Next week's BMW Championship promises to get the juices flowing though. The Top 50 tee it up and by Sunday evening that's trimmed to just the top 30 for the Tour Championship finale at East Lake. With Scheffler in this kind of form, you wouldn't bet against him. Be more like Scottie folks - Just hit fairways and greens - it's boring but it pays well!

Tommy - Enjoy the Walk!
