Tommy’s Take: The Scottish Open

Right then. Settle in. Let's talk about North Berwick, where Tom Kim has finally ended that three-year wait for a win. And what a win it was.

He's had a tough run of it, hasn't he? Form dipped, confidence took a hit, the world ranking slipped. But on Sunday at The Renaissance Club? He reminded everyone exactly why we got so excited about him in the first place. A flawless 64, no bogeys on the card, in that wind, under that pressure. He was the only man in the entire field to get through the final round without dropping a shot. That's not luck, that's pure class. The tears at the end? Fully deserved. You don't get those back without going through the wringer first.

Now, let's give credit where it's due to the lads who gave it a real go. Bob MacIntyre – the home hero, feeding off that incredible Scottish support – he was right in the mix, sharing the lead with Min Woo Lee and Matt Fitzpatrick after that fog-delayed third round. But Tom just had that extra gear. Bob finished four back alongside Fitzpatrick, and Min Woo Lee took solo second. No shame in that – they all played brilliant golf, just got outshone by a man on a mission.

And Rory? Fires a stunning 64 on Sunday, matching Tom's low round of the day. Beautiful to watch. But that 73 on Saturday just left him with too much mountain to climb. Even for a man of his talents, you can't give the field that kind of head start. Top effort to finish strong, though.

Now, the bigger picture: Open spots up for grabs. Americans Michael Thorbjornsen and Johny Keefer – tied seventh and third respectively – they're heading to Royal Birkdale next week for their debut. Big moment for those lads. And Victor Perez nabs the other spot. Lovely stuff.

£1.2 million in the bank. A ticket to the Masters next year. And most importantly, Tom Kim is back on the winner's podium, just in time for the big one.

And talking of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale – listen now to our Open Championship Quiz and Preview Podcast, Tommy does golf available on all the major platforms. Go on, get it downloaded. You know it makes sense.

That's Tommy's Take. I'm off for a brew.
