Tommy’s Take - Matt Fitzpatrick Beats Scheffler in Playoff as LIV Uncertainty Grows
Matt Fitzpatrick secured his second PGA Tour win of the season on Sunday, outlasting world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a playoff to capture the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town. The Englishman started the final round with a three-shot lead, only to bogey the 72nd hole and force sudden death. In the playoff, Fitzpatrick delivered a clutch four-iron to 13 feet while Scheffler's approach was blown off course by the wind.
Scheffler continues to knock on the door. The world No. 1 finished runner-up for the second straight week, having posted an 11-under total at the Masters just one shot behind Rory McIlroy. His bogey-free weekend at Augusta was the first since 1942.
The DP World Tour took a breather this week but resumes April 23-26 with the Volvo China Open in Shanghai.
Meanwhile, LIV Golf is facing an uncertain future. CEO Scott O'Neil confirmed the Saudi-funded league is only financed through the 2026 season, with PIF shifting focus toward domestic investment. LIV Players are reportedly nervous as speculation swirls about a potential sale or merger beyond this year.
