Tommy’s Take:The Weekend of the Comeback Kings
What a weekend we just witnessed in the world of golf! It was a story of two veterans shaking off the rust and reminding everyone why they are champions.
Over in Belgium at the Soudal Open in Antwerp, we saw something truly special. Richard Sterne proved that class is permanent. The South African carded a brilliant final round of 66 to secure his seventh DP World Tour title. Given that he hadn’t won in 13 years, the emotion on the final green was palpable. To hold his nerve under pressure after more than a decade without a trophy is the definition of grit.
Meanwhile, across the pond on the PGA Tour at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Wyndham Clark decided he wanted to join the party. Clark was absolutely dialled in, finishing the tournament at an incredible 30-under par. He fired a stunning 11-under 60 in the final round to win by three shots.
It had been two years since Clark last won, and he picked the perfect week to return to form. A 60 on a Sunday to get the job done is pure aggression.
Welcome back to the winner’s circle, gentlemen.
