Tommy’s Take: Kuwaki Delivers for Japan at AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham!

The big story this week is undoubtedly the AIG Women’s Open, and what a thriller it was at Royal Lytham.

Shiho Kuwaki didn't just win; she continued a Japanese dynasty, following in the footsteps of 2025 champ Miyu Yamashita by outlasting Esther Henseleit in a tense two-hole playoff. The 23-year-old was ice-cold all week, holding her nerve to sign for a final-round 70 before watching Henseleit's second playoff tee shot find the gorse. It’s a massive major breakthrough for Japan, and honestly, it’s just awesome to see the game booming there. Henseleit will be gutted, but she played out of her skin to force extra holes.

Over on the PGA Tour, Michael Thorbjornsen finally got the monkey off his back at the Rocket Classic in Detroit. The kid shot a blistering 7-under 63 on Sunday to finish at -18, holding off final round playing partner Xander Schauffele by two shots to grab his first career win. Huge moment for Michael—and a timely reminder that the college stars are coming.

Meanwhile, in Estonia, Rory Franssen (not the other Rory!) broke through on the HotelPlanner Tour. The Scot was bogey-free on Sunday to win the Infortar Estonian Challenge by three, admitting he was "exhausted" after surviving a nervy final day.
